Korowai Tamariki* Music Group
For Wāhine and their preschoolers
In partnership with Te Whare Tiaki Wāhine Refuge

Te Whare Tiaki Wāhine Refuge is a non-profit organisation based in Porirua, providing services for Māori wāhine and their tamariki who are impacted by family violence. They offer a variety of options to support and encourage wāhine to understand, recognise and eliminate beliefs and attitudes inherent in patriarchal structures which maintain and perpetuate violence against wāhine and their tamariki.
With funding support from Music Helps, the Little Musical Caravan has partnered with Te Whare Tiaki to offer therapeutic music groups to wāhine and their pre-schoolers. The focus of the group is to offer opportunities for connection, and to resource wāhine to use music in a soothing way with their tamariki.
This is a pilot programme, running for 10 weeks on Friday mornings during term time, starting on 28 March 2025. The group is open to all women and their pre-schoolers who may benefit from learning more about using music to soothe themselves and their little ones, and particularly to those experiencing hard times.
Our Music Therapist
Registered Music Therapist Liz Langham will be co-faciliating the Korowai Tamariki Music Group, along with a social worker from Te Whare Tiaki Wāhine Refuge.
Liz has combined her passion for people, expressive arts and community building in different ways through her career as a social worker, AOD (Alcohol and Other Drugs) practitioner, community worker, parent, educator, supervisor and music therapist.
