Our Services
Individual Sessions
We offer one-on-one tailored music therapy sessions to support growth and development for pre-schoolers, primary school-aged children, teens and young adults.
Children’s sessions are offered onsite at our host schools in the Little Musical Caravan and in our music therapy room at Mana Therapy Hub.
We use a play-based approach, following children’s strengths and interests, and tailor sessions to meet their individual needs. Where appropriate we encourage peer involvement. We use inclusive practices to optimise your child’s potential and maximise their sense of belonging within their communities.
Together with parents, school teams and where possible the young person themselves, we identify key areas where support may be required and use music to support growth and development.

School teams
In addition at Mana Therapy Hub we offer person-centred sessions for teens and young adults. For our young people we use a resource-oriented approach to their musical journey, supporting their growth and development in non-musical areas.

Music Therapy Assessments
Before starting music therapy work, we will do a music therapy assessment. This is so that we can get to know the child or young person and their musical preferences, and observe how they interact with the therapist and with others. Usually an assessment involves 3 or 4 person-centred music therapy sessions. We may also include a classroom observation, and at the end of the assessment period we will prepare a written report. We will then indicate whether music therapy would be beneficial, which therapist will be a good match for the child or young person, and what areas might be useful to focus on.
Regular term-time sessions
If, following assessment, we agree that music therapy is a good fit, we will offer ongoing sessions and use the assessment report as a springboard to discuss therapy direction. Ongoing music therapy work is reviewed termly, or more often if needed, and we are happy to contribute towards IEPs and IPs where appropriate.
Short-term work
From time to time, short term music therapy work may be more appropriate and we may offer a block of sessions. This is usually where there is a time-defined purpose for music therapy, for example supporting transition to a new school.
School holiday sessions
For our regular clients, we may offer sessions during the school holidays at Mana Therapy Hub, depending on client need.
Trial sessions
Over the school holidays we also offer a limited number of trial sessions at Mana Therapy Hub for children and their whānau to ‘test drive’ us.

This is what I thought about working with Emily… It wasn’t just do the A chord on the first fret. She makes music fun. You can play any instrument you want.
